In the 60s, before Reagan, the method of community was from the extended work social events. The white man makes the bread, and the white woman makes social events for the workplace. Companies hosted family picnics, holiday parties, community engagements. And thus their work places sponsored events created social bonds beyond the nuclear family.
though times changed, the ethos remains, a shackle.

The hyper individualistic ideas of what a proper “family” is heavily from the 1950s transformation of American family structures.
The nuclear family model replaced extended family and connection with isolated units in suburban developments. No extended family nearby, no neighborly "street families" for support like I was growing up in China.
